I’m wanting these glass containers! Mix and match colour and transparencies and you get a lovely way to display your treasures. Those folks at Iittala are very clever!

Did you know wine glasses have “parts”? Indulge me as I describe one of my favourite sets from the Finnish company, Iittala. This is the Essence, designed by Alfredo Håberli.
Starting from the bottom…
Foot: Its thickness makes this ‘part’ look solid and disk-like. Most wine glasses taper upwards from the outer ring to the base of the stem. But I love how this one is the same thickness throughout.
Stem: With a slight taper, the stem rises up to meet the bowl. Notice that all the stems are the same height in this series. They look beautiful together on your dinner table!
Bowl: I love the soft but squarish bottom of the bowl. Modern but still refined and soft.
There you have it. Now I need a drink… white or red? Who’s joining me?

I can’t think of anything more striking for a beautifully set table top than the Almoco Flatware. And so effortless! Crafted from premium stainless steel, the unique black finish is stunning. Not to be outdone, however, by the Silver and Gold versions…. decisions, decisions!
Oh and how great would this look with Karl Lagerfeld’s stemware, previously posted here!?

I get really excited when I open a box of chocolate truffles and it comes with a legend! This series of porcelain plates by Swiss architect Albert Schrurs, for Bernardaud, is very much in the same vein. The pattern makes up a road map in France and the ‘legend’ is displayed on the back of each plate. Brilliant.
I love it when there’s a method to the madness.
