Interiors: Modern Victorian

April 12, 2012 § 6 Comments

This is why my dream home would be Victorian. With a modern twist.

Traditionally, Victorian homes are covered in boldly printed wallpaper, deep, rich colours, stained wood architectural detailing and lots of heavy fabrics. The effect: warm, formal and (arguably), somewhat fussy.

But my version of Victorian would be the opposite. High ceilings and walls trimmed in decorative mouldings would be painted all white (yes, Gentlemen…time to paint the wood). It creates such an open and fresh interior. It also means special focal points (like fireplaces…especially beautifully detailed Victorian mantlepieces) can really stand out. The furniture and artwork, in my dream home, would be contemporary, casual and comfortable. The lighting, technical and functional.

So… in essence… this is my dream home. Guess I’ll have to move Down Under… I believe it’s on the market!
